A Podcast, A Documentary, A Workshop

And more group info!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are keeping cool with the hot start to our summer. There are several psychiatree groups coming up in the fall for anyone concerned about the state of our world. These groups can help to adapt to the many challenges of our time. I am also starting a group dedicated to people with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder (information below). If you or anyone you know would benefit from any of these groups, please connect with me at [email protected]

In today’s newsletter I’ve included two links: one to a recent podcast and one to a documentary I was in. I’ve also included an opportunity for a Work That Reconnects offering, led by a mentor of mine, Natalie Zend.

Upcoming Groups:

Healing Bipolar Group: Bi-weekly on Thursdays from 1:00pm to 2:45pm at the Songbird Sanctuary - 65 Shanly St

Beginning in the fall, I will be co-leading a group designed for people who have had a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. My co-facilitator, naomi tessler, has a background in Expressive Arts therapy and has lived experience with bipolar. We will be integrating her wisdom along with influences of the Work That Reconnects to bring about healing. This group requires a referral from a physician which can be found here since I won’t have the capacity to manage medications in this group.

Locations that will have groups in the fall with dates/times TBD:

St Joseph’s Health Centre
West Neighbourhood House
Hard Feelings
Michael Garron Hospital (for youth)
Neighbourhood Unitarian Universalist Congregation

If you have a group of 5 or more people interested in starting a group at a different location, please reach out too!

Other Exciting Connections:

1) Inside the Wellness Hive+: Unplugged Podcast Episode #5 psychiatree: Where Nature & Therapy Grow Together

  • Curious about my inspirations and therapeutic approach? In this 45 minute episode Gabriella Iannetti explores how I’ve grown to embody my current work

2) The Mini Forest, A Documentary by David Hartman

  • In this 20 minute film, David explores how small yards can add up to make a huge difference - for biodiversity and our mental health.

3) Council of All Beings workshop will be held at Unicamp of Ontario (about 1.5 hours from Toronto).

  • This daylong Council of All Beings ritual is part of The Work That Reconnects, a body of practices developed to support people in facing ecological and social challenges with resilience, courage, and care.

  • In this supportive group process, participants symbolically speak on behalf of other beings — such as plants, animals, features of the natural world — and in doing so, often experience:

  • A deepened sense of belonging in the web of life

  • A release of emotions related to ecological grief or anxiety

  • A rekindling of hope, energy, and clarity for navigating these uncertain times

The workshop will be facilitated by an experienced team, including facilitator Natalie Zend (who has personally studied with Work that Reconnects root teacher Joanna Macy), her husband Bruce Lyne, musicians Larry Nusbaum and Susanne Maziarz, and artist Lauren Renzetti.
